This month has two themes! You may choose to do either or both.

LOW KEY – Your image is mostly dark, with deep shadows, any bit of light accentuates the shape and lines of your subject. These images tend to have bold, striking contrast and often have a dramatic quality about them. Often using a single light source on the subject with everything else in the dark. Your histogram is almost entirely to the left.

HIGH KEY – Your image is bright, almost white, with no harsh shadows. The composition appears soft, even delicate, and shape is sometimes lost. Often using a large light source or many. Your histogram is almost entirely to the right.

We’re not super picky about definitions here, but if you’d like to dive in to the theme a bit deeper, I’d recommend starting with a google image search for Low Key or High Key lighting. Lots of examples (mostly portraits). Lots of tricks and tips to be found too. If you want to dig in for some of the gritty technical aspects, try this article from fstoppers.

The Submission Form is open for submissions right up until the meeting begins. Prints may be brought with you as you arrive. As usual, the meeting is at 6:00pm at Kimball Farms.
